About the Project

I previously thought Wind Turbines were just that - glorified fans high up in the sky turning as the wind pushes up against it. I was definitely wrong!

As sustainable sources of energy are becoming widely adopted around the world in an effort to reduce our reliance on pollution-producing energy sources, designs for the various energy capture methods must be available to suit a wide range of climates and environments. This project focused on designing a wind turbine blade that would be an effective solution for a particular situation

Problem Statement

Design a simple, durable, and low maintenance device to generate electricity for an entire village that is cost-effective and environmentally sustainable. The device should be constructed using materials that are easily accessible to the public and are long-lasting.

Assigned Scenario: EWB Humanitarian Aid Mission

Our group was assigned the EWB Humanitarian Aid Mission. The design is based off a proposed wind turbine project in a rural region in Guatemala, where most homes would use the electricity to run lights and small, basic appliances. Longevity and budget is a big priority for the project.
